Artist statement
Already in earlier works, I have focused on things and situations of everyday life and also in 10 sec.the gaze is directed towards my immediate environment. The increasing difficulty to get analogue photographic materials like instant film or photographic paper and the awareness of a possible complete disappearance cause me to make film-based photography itself with its very own processes and procedures, the subject of my series. Without claiming completeness – I am not interested in an A-Z of photography – it’s about the things that surround me and my personal relationship to them. The series brings together photographs of photograpic equipment and tools such as developer cans and photo paper boxes combined with photographs, mostly landscapes and portraits from my archive. Partly newly printed and refined, they refer to the photographic carrier materials and document the process of creation. Mistakes, the unexpected and the non-perfect are intentional and part of my aesthetic decisions, which are influenced by the philosophical, aesthetic concept wabi-wabi. In the still lifes I reveal the setting and the surrounding in which I took the pictures: Floor, tripod and cable release are part of the whole and become objects. En plus I am also visible as the author and creator of the images by photographing myself or my hands and feet and also indirectly through fingerprints. Thus the autobiographical element matters in my work as does preserving and remembering.The more than thirty-part series 10 sec. includes hand printed c-type prints, silver gelatin prints and instant color/bw prints, framed and unframed, which are assembled in various formats ( frame size from 300 x 240 mm to 483 x 559 mm ) as a site-specific installation.
